Original realistic wildlife paintings

Bio:

Peter was born in Annan in the south west of Scotland in 1949 and moved to Naivasha, Kenya at the age of 6. My father, being a vet, and living on a farm in Kenya's Rift Valley soon stimulated my interest in wildlife. By the time I was 10 my interest in painting had taken a firm hold and I was always either sketching or painting wildlife. At the age of 14 I won 1st prize at the Royal Nairobi Show for a painting of a Kudu bull. My work was exhibited regularly during my school career.

As well as painting professionally since the early 1980's, I was also manager of a game reserve in Namibia where I had the opportunity to work as well as raise many species of wildlife including Cheetah, Leopard, Caracal, Wilddog, Aardwolf etc. This was a tremendous experience and privilege for my family and I, as I was able to observe the animals at close quarters and study their habits both in our home as well as in the wild. Having spent many years working with wildlife, I would like to think that I contributed towards the preservation of endangered species in Namibia

My work has been exhibited in Namibia, South Africa, Britain, Kenya, USA and Germany. I have also exhibited at the Christies Annual Wildlife Exhibition since 1996. I have done 9 limited editions prints but not all are available. The mediums I prefer are oils, gouache, pastel and pencil. I'd describe my work as depicting realism. In September 2000 we left Namibia and moved back to Scotland where I am managing a private estate. I look forward to adding the local wildlife to my portfolio but will continue taking trips to Africa to paint it's wildlife. I have a special affinity to the large Cats and Elephant. Photographs that appear with some of the paintings are of animals my family and I raised. Not all my paintings were created from these animals, however, they provided me with valuable reference material.
