Bio:
Kris Killman is a traditional Watercolor Artist with a passion for painting realism with vivid colors and a transparent touch. Painting scenes of the Midwest from his own photographs, Kris captures the essence of his native state of Illinois. Every painting sets a mood and invites the viewer into the world he's created.
As a self taught artist, Kris learned to paint from how-to books and has been creating original works since 1990. Employed at a Federal Penitentiary since 1985, the watercolors are a great escape from the daily routine involved in his occupation.

Realistic landscapes, portraits, wildlife and impressionistic floral are just some of the topics he covers. Kris has painted commission work for many clients. He loves the flexibility of watercolor. The colors can be transparent or pop out brilliantly. Watercolor has been called the "Masters Medium" because of its difficult nature. "You don't always get second chances with watercolor. There is a lot of preplanning involved in each painting. "This challenges the limitations of the artist, and that is why Kris loves to paint in watercolor.
Kris is represented by Wild Things Art Gallery in Marion, Illinois, and Art Services in Carbondale, Illinois. He is a founding member of the Little Egypt Arts Association. Past secretary, vice president and current member in Marion, Illinois. He has participated in numerous juried shows in the Tri-State area, winning numerous awards and selling original art to State, corporate and private individuals.

Artist Comments:
After working in a coal mine for 6 years and a maximum security penitentiary for 17 years, I've seen the dark underside of nature and humanity. My work reflects a need to show the beauty around us.
